Doctoral research fellow Simon Tacke
Simon Tacke holds a B.A. in History and Political Science from Heidelberg University, as well as an M.St. in Global and Imperial History from the University of Oxford. His master’s research examined the Egyptian Antiquities Service and its antiquities legislation through the lens of competing national, imperial, and “scientific“ interests during the long nineteenth century. Building on his previous research, including archival work in Berlin, London, Paris, and Cairo, his PhD project examines how practices of antiquities collecting in the Middle East shaped both knowledge production and forms of enmity directed towards the region between 1850 and 1930. Adopting a global history perspective, his work focuses on scholarly networks, museum collections and material culture related to the study of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia.
