Monica Juneja’s research investigates the dynamics of antagonistic relationships between Hindus and Muslims on the Indian Subcontinent, which are staged over the interpretation of images and the use of historic buildings. It examines emotionally charged conflicts generated by the need for communities to redress what they imagine to be the wrongs of the past, asks how artistic production and curation oscillate between frameworks defined by memories of hostile encounters and urges to produce a counter-discourse.
